PIZZA - YUMMMMMM

Don't forget tonight is our Dominos' Pizza fundraising night. All you have to do is encourage as many people as you can to order a Domino's Pizza tonight. The club gets $1 from all pizza orders so the more they sell, the more we get.

Next meeting is our AGM. Nominations are now open for committee positions. Nomination forms will be available at the next meeting or can be downloaded here

Being a committee member is both rewarding and challenging. Committee meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month. All members are most welcome to attend committee meetings, so even if you don't wish to be on the committee you can still be involved.

Photoshop quicktip #16

16 A very quick and easy way of increasing the brush size is simply to use the square brackets on the keyboard. The right-hand square brackets ] will increase the brush size whereas the left-hand square brackets [ will decrease the brush size.

Before and After

I just had a play with an old photo, just a couple of changes. Background darkened, face and eyes made light and a little more saturation in the eyes. What do you think?

ABC SUNDAY ARTS - Ricky Maynard

Last week (14/06/09) the ABC Sunday Arts show had a piece about the Tasmanian documentary photographer, Ricky Maynard. The show can be downloaded here .

Ricky Maynard began his career as a sixteen-year old darkroom technician and is now an internationally renowned documentary photographer based on Flinders Island, Tasmania.
His images are a rare combination of great technical skill and powerful social documentary. Maynard honed his craft at New York’s International Centre of Photography and came to the attention of the art world with his series ‘The Moonbird People’ (1985-88). Since then, his work has ranged across landscape and portraiture, but the photographs are united by their sensitivity and quiet power. Maynard’s collaborative approach of working closely with the communities he photographs is a major development in the representation of the Indigenous Australians. Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art will host a survey of his art spanning more than two decades, across six series of his work. ‘Ricky Maynard: Portrait of a Distant Land’ is on at the MCA from June 4 to August 23. Producer: Robert Hayward

June Monthly Meeting

Just a few highlights from the monthly meeting.

Thank you to Damien White for his excellent presentation on Sports Photography. The big take home message I got was to think about your photo before you take it. Think about how you want the photo to look, what feelings and emotions you wish to convey, and how to set the camera up to capture that image. I think this applies equally to all genres of photography.

Damien mentioned that he is a big fan of the strobist blog. I have added it to the links. It is a great site for learning how to use your 'speedlight'. Check out the water droplet tutorial post from May 28th. Anyone interested in having a go?

Kate talked but Gudymount. Gudymount is screenboard, with a Neschen Gudy 804 repositionable adhesive and release liner applied to the surface. From Google, it appears to available from Hughes, but the link to their website isn't working.

MONDAY 22nd JUNE - DOMINO'S PIZZA fundrasier night. We get $1 from every order. So this would be a great night to have a break from cooking and order a DOMINO'S PIZZA. Also tell all your friends, workmates, neighbours, people in the street. The more pizzas they sell the more money we get.
AGM 2nd July.
