South Western Interclub Result

Congratulations to Colac for their victory at this annual contest. It was great to see the many fine prints on display from Colac, Portland and Warrnambool. Quite inspiring. Congratulations to those who competed and those who gained places.

Thanks to Judge Ian Bock who also displayed a stimulating presentation of his photographs. His comments on the photographs were thoughtful and informative.

Bunnings BBQ

Thank you to everyone who helped out yesterday. We have a very successful day and I would like to say a huge thank you to Coles Centro for their donation of the sausages and to Bakers Delight for the bread. Without the help of these two businesses our profits would be dramatically reduced. I would urge club members to support these businesses as they have supported us.

Street Photography

Street photography is a type of documentary photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions, and other settings. Street photography could be described as social photography, the way that people interact with others. It is about our human society, shared moments, and our environments. It is photos of people in their own habitat. It is about telling a story in a single scene. This can be from the homeless person all the way up to high society.

Some photographers advocate the use of a wide angle lens so you are close to your subjects and interacting with them, not just obseving them. Others opt for a longer lens so you can capture the scene without disturbing it. I think do whatever you are most comfortable with. I have posted some links below to help. As you can see, street photography is a hugely varied subject from the very subtle to the 'in-your-face'.

Shutterbug Photography Festival

Shutterbug Photography Festival has fast become a must see event on the photographic calendar and a quality outlet for non-professional and emerging photographers from around Australia.

Entries for Shutterbug are taken from the 1st January - 30th May each year. The work is judged (please see our judges page) and finalists announced. The Shutterbug Photography Projection night is a huge VIP event held in Sydney sometime in July.

The vision behind the festival is to give talented photographers an opportunity to show off some of their work via this tough competition, with the submission requirement of 15-25 images in a theme designed to encourage excellence across a body of work rather than a single image.

This is also an opportunity for photography lovers and art supporters alike to be introduced to the work of gifted and emerging artists by way of the big screen at The Chauvel Cinema on the Shutterbug Festival night.
