Extremely high contrast between colours and between subjects where hard edges meet softer backgrounds (ie sky) will give a ghosting effect. Some times it enhances an image - its all down to personal taste.
The clunkiness around foliage is probably caused by movement due to presence of a breeze during the multiple exposure. Don't despair - HDR is great when it all comes together nicely.
